Te Korowai Mātauranga o Taranaki - The Next Step

Published on

WITT has released its new 2022-2032 Strategic Plan, Te Korowai Mātauranga o Taranaki – The Cloak of Knowledge. The plan is a continuation of the 2020-2022 vision and reflects WITT’s strong focus on being an essential regional education hub that’s owned by the whole Taranaki community.

“Te Korowai Mātauranga o Taranaki was first introduced in 2020 and provides WITT with a clear vision for the future,” Chief Executive John Snook says. “As WITT continues on the journey to becoming Te Pūkenga in 2023, it’s important that we remain grounded in the community.”

“Our work is to place tools in the hands of people at every step of their career journey, so they learn skills and are able to progress their lives and contribute to their whānau and community.”

John said that behind the ideas and initiatives in the vision are the people, staff, students and community that are able to make it come to life.

Te Korowai Mātauranga o Taranaki -The cloak of Knowledge, weaves together our why – we connect people with their future – with our four ‘pou’, and our schools.

Allie Hemara-Wahanui Kaiarahi- Deputy Chief Executive said the pou help set our cultural position and the strategy provides the direction for all of our community.

“The pou and Te Korowai together articulate where we are and where we are going”

“Early this year as part of our 50-year celebration the pou, which were erected 10 years ago at our New Plymouth campus, were unveiled with new artwork surrounding each pou," she said.

“The four pou are our support poles. They’re our core beliefs, the principles that guide everything we do. If we want to be innovative, responsive and impactful, everything we do at WITT should connect to at least one of the four pou.”

“Our purpose is to connect people to their future, providing education to the region that prepares people for employment. The more ākonga we engage, the more employment opportunities they can benefit from and in turn this region will benefit”
