Health Clinic 

The Health Clinic provides a wide range of free health services to all students by appointment.

The WITT doctor works seven hours per week and is available for students only, except in exceptional circumstances. If you are not a student and need to see the WITT Doctor, please ask. 

The doctor's clinic hours are:

Tuesday 12-1.30​pm
Wednesday 11am-1.30pm
Thursday 12.30-2pm

The campus nurse hours are:  8.30am-4pm Monday to Friday, for students and staff (drop in at your convenience or make an *appointment)

WITT Medical Clinic is free for:

  • ACC.
  • B12 injections.
  • Blood pressure checks.
  • Heart health checks.
  • Blood tests forms.
  • Depo injections.
  • Emergency contraception (morning after pill).
  • First aid.
  • Free condoms.
  • Green prescriptions for Sport Taranaki.
  • Hearing tests.
  • Immunisation.
  • Insertion and removal of Mirena and Jaydess (IUDs).
  • Insertion and removal of Jaydelle (contraceptive rods).
  • Patches and gum for quitting smoking.
  • Pregnancy tests.
  • Sexual health checks.
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) swabs.
  • Cervical smears.
  • Urine infections.  
  • Wound dressings.
  • Low-Income Dental Services.

Mental Health Nurse

The Mental Health Nurse is available to support ākonga facing mental health and addiction challenges that may be impacting on their studies, relationships, employment, or impairment of any aspect of their ability to function at a level of optimal wellbeing for that individual.

The Mental Health Nurse can:

  • Provide comprehensive mental health assessments for a wide variety of mental health challenges or conditions.
  • Assess and support ākonga experiencing addiction challenges.
  • Screen and support for ākonga with neurodiversity or development challenges.
  • Assess and support ākonga experiencing past or present trauma, abuse, bereavement, or family violence.
  • Connect and support ākonga into primary and secondary community mental health and addiction services.
  • Connect and support ākonga into other community-based services that may help support ākonga wellbeing.
  • Assist and support any mental health crisis events on campus.
  • Develop with ākonga individualised wellbeing plans.
  • Liaise with tutors and head of schools in advocacy role for individual ākonga.

Counsellor/Social Worker

The social worker/counsellor is available to assist ākonga facing difficulties that could affect their studies and their ability to achieve their academic goals.

The social worker/counsellor can:

  • Provide support concerning relationship issues with fellow students or staff.
  • Support you to liaise with tutors or head of schools regarding concerns you may have.
  • Help you to navigate WITT Te Pukenga policies and procedures.
  • Advocate for the rights of a student individually, classes or the entire student body.
  • Assist with problem solving.
  • Provide advocacy and support with government and non-government agencies, e.g. StudyLink or Work and Income NZ.
  • Provide support with everyday life issues.
  • Provide support and referrals to address alcohol and drug issues, mental health issues, academic support, family violence, court proceedings, housing issues and counselling.

Vitae Counselling

Providing access to this free service is part of the commitment made by Te Pūkenga to promote a healthy learning environment by ensuring that all learners have the opportunity to talk to someone about their mental health. Please take this opportunity to seek help when you need it.

Vitae’s focus is on enabling speedy access to psychological services that help to resolve issues and maintain a safe, healthy, and productive work environment.

Through this service, you will be able to address issues such as:

  • Addictions.
  • Anxiety.
  • Depression.
  • Conflict situations.
  • Grief/loss.
  • Harassment.
  • Personal or study stress.
  • Personal trauma.
  • Relationship problems.
  • Violence.

Te Pae Ora

Te Pae Ora is a wellbeing and mental health hub designed by ākonga, for ākonga with the purpose to enhance the overall education experience and success at Te Pūkenga.


The hub has videos, articles, tools and information that can guide and empower ākonga to take care of their wellbeing to support learning. It is a space where ākonga can explore facets of wellbeing and find some resources to draw on to support their learning journey.

Accessibility Services

The role of the Accessibility Service is to ensure that students get the support they require to assist with their study.

This could include: 

  • Specialist equipment and furniture
  • Support staff
  • Exam accommodations e.g. reader/writer
  • Information and advocacy
  • Access issues e.g. accessible teaching spaces and amenities
  • Individual Evacuation Plans
  • Alternative formatting service e.g. enlarged print or electronic format
  • Accessible car parks

Fitness Factory Gym

The Fitness Factory is FREE for all students. The space opened in 2020 and features all-new, state-of-the-art equipment and audio-visual set up, secure bag storage, plus new shower and changing facilities. Open seven days a week from 6am to 8pm, there’s plenty of time to hit the gym for a workout or group fitness class. If you need to clear your head, check out our yoga classes on Mondays and Friday lunchtimes.

Chaplaincy

An ecumenical chaplain is available on campus to provide a confidential, non-judgemental listening ear; support in times of illness, confusion or bereavement and a point of contact.
