This course will introduce students to a commercial farming environment. They will learn about animal behaviour, control and feed management. |
Forestry |
This course will introduce students to the forestry industry. They will learn about forest harvesting operations and quality and value factors in logs. |
Agriculture is a major player in the Taranaki region and the course content includes elements of sheep and beef farming, biodiversity as well as dairy farming. Elements of farm safety and general good farm practices will complete this course.
Students will demonstrate knowledge of cattle anatomy and physiology, handle and move livestock, learn to install and maintain fencing and manage risks around the rural workplace.
You will learn skills in animal handling (with an emphasis on large animals inlcuding horses and cattle), safe practices and have an introduction to general animal care. Pathways exist in New Zealand Certificate in Animal Care (Companion Animals) Level 3 and New Zealand Certificate in Animal Technology (Vet Nursing Assistant).
Forestry has untapped potential in Taranaki and there are lots of opportunities for you. Learn basic knowledge of the Forestry industry including how to plant and harvest trees along with chainsaw use and health and safety including First Aid.
