The charter is a tool to help implement initiatives to keep staff who drive fleet vehicles as safe as possible. It provides logical steps to employee road safety and demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to the safety of our workforce when on the road.
Linda Dravitski, Acting Director of Corporate Services and Chair of Health and Safety Committee was part of the team that worked toward gaining the charter.
"As an organisation, we want to support Waka Kotahi's vision of zero fatalities and a reduction in crashes on Taranaki roads. Working with the RoadSafe Taranaki team has enabled us to be part of this initiative."
"Attempting to change behaviour and attitudes on our roads can be difficult, and as an organisation, it is important that we support the Taranaki community," she says.
WITT Te Pūkenga has run many initiatives on campus for kaimahi including training days for charging and driving the EV vehicles, regularly checking staff hold a valid license and ensuring the vehicles are always equipped with the appropriate first aid equipment.
"The charter we have been awarded is valid for two years, and our next focus is on upholding this achievement," she said.
