Thank You our Community Heroes

The last few weeks have been a little like riding a roller coaster for many New Zealanders. With daily COVID-19 announcements, regular alert level changes and guidelines being developed on the fly, we’ve all certainly felt some uncertainty and had some emotional moments.

However, in true New Zealand spirit, we have taken on the challenge!  New Zealanders have pulled together, supported our friends, neighbours and extended whānau and taken advantage of those hidden opportunities while working through covid lockdown alert levels.

Perhaps it’s been preparing your gardens for the summer months or doing those jobs around the house that we keep meaning to get too, we’ve made use of the time locked down in our bubbles.

Then there are also those in our community that took up juggling. The juggle of work vs home life now combined. Workers that now have children at home that need help with their learning, workers that continue to juggle their own families to serve our community. Delivering meals, stocking shelves and readying our businesses, community organisations and education institutes for when we could all return.

Linda Dravitski, Manager Corporate Health and Safety Facilities at WITT said her team and the wider Taranaki contractors that support WITT have been amazing.  “We have certainly been kept busy over the last few weeks. We have had to move very quickly at each alert level announcement, ensuring we meet the guidance released by both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.” “The health and safety of our staff and students is always our first priority and the team have delivered”, she said.

“Removing desks, putting up additional QR codes, ordering and stacking face masks and sanitiser, setting up signage around campus to ensure we are creating the required social distancing are just a few of the jobs that had to be completed before people could come back onsite.”
