Business ākonga at WITT have the chance to add another qualification to their CVs by taking part in Xero training as part of their diploma or degree.
Xero is the leading accountancy software worldwide, with over 512,000 small and medium businesses in New Zealand, and 3.95 million small to medium businesses worldwide using Xero.
“Anyone applying for work with Xero training under their belt is going to have a leg up in the job market both in New Zealand and around the world,” says former WITT Accounting Tutor and Managing Partner at Murphy & Landrigan Patrick Landrigan.
All ākonga enrolled in the Applied Accounting course as part of the NZ Diploma in Business (Level 5) have the chance to become Xero certified as part of their studies. Last year 12 ākonga took up the opportunity to gain the certification.
“Some of these ākonga are carrying on to the Bachelor of Accounting this year while the others have gone back to their employers with new skills or are seeking work,” says WITT Te Pūkenga tutor Donna Sullivan.
“I actively encouraged ākonga to get their certification as it is good, relevant learning and a valuable skill to have on your CV to offer an employer,” adds Donna.
In the past WITT offered MYOB training but changed to Xero after a presentation on campus by Taranaki Young Accountants who stressed how popular Xero is with local employers.
“We pride ourselves on ensuring our graduates are work-ready and able to meet the demands of local employers. Xero training is a really practical, visible skill we can support our ākonga to achieve to increase their employability,” says Donna.
