Welcome to the 2022 Student Leaders

The 2022 Student Leaders are officially underway for the year. Meeting for the first time in the new student voice space ‘Te Paepae Ākonga’ situated in the heart of student life on campus in Te Kauta Café.

Te Paepae Ākonga is being transformed into a ākonga centric hub that will provide a space for the student leaders and student representatives to meet.

The 2022 Student Leaders represent a broad range of programmes at WITT from Nursing to Project Management. They present and represent student views, ideas, and concerns on a national, regional, WITT committees, and working groups. Advocating on behalf of students and supporting the School Representatives.

Kim Prince, a Bachelor of Applied Management student, applied to become a student leader after she heard her tutors talking about it.

“I was approached by some staff here at WITT and asked if I would be interested in applying. I have never been a part of anything this significant before and I was excited to be able to try and make a difference to students while they are on their journey at WITT,” she said.

Kim believes that everyone should have a voice, and it is important for it to be heard.

“I want all the students here at WITT to have a voice. From the very minute students come to WITT, I believe that it should be a good experience, and they should want to be here,” she said.

Scott Brown is another new student leader and a first-year Bachelor of Nursing student. For Scott being a Student Leader was familiar to him, having been involved in similar things in high school.

“I have always found that I naturally gravitate towards being part of leadership groups like the Student Leaders here at WITT, so I’m excited to see where this opportunity takes me,” he said.  

Scott is hoping to be able to help create inclusivity at WITT.

“I’m hoping to be able to contribute to WITT being an inclusive and safe space for everyone, where everyone feels welcome,” he said.
