WITT art and design graduates invited to take part in new 50x50 exhibition

WITT is calling for 50 of their art and design graduates to create an artwork using any dimension of 50 for an end of year exhibition to help celebrate the tertiary provider’s 50^th anniversary.

“We’re asking our alumni to play with dimensions of 50 as their only boundary. Everything else is up to them; 50 x 50 centimetres, millimetres, inches, squared or 50 digital pixels. We’re excited to see the response to this challenge,” says WITT-Te Pūkenga Lead Creative Ged Guy.

This year WITT celebrates 50 years of providing tertiary education for the people of Taranaki at the same time as becoming part of the national network of tertiary providers, Te Pūkenga.

 “We think it’s important to see what 50 years of art and design looks like so we can imagine what the next 50 years might be and it feels particularly significant to be reflecting back on the past five decades as we become Te Pūkenga.”

Former art and design ākonga are asked to get in touch with Ms Guy and submit an expression of interest.
“Graduates who have studied with us over the last few decades and have experienced programmes as diverse as fashion, photography, digital media, graphic design and visual arts so we expect an interesting and varied body of work will be produced.”

The exhibition of 50 artworks will open on Thursday 1 December 2022 and will run in the F Block gallery venue at the New Plymouth campus on Bell Street.

“We’ve had good interest from the alumni that we’ve approached but if we haven’t tracked you down and you’re an interested artist, maker or designer who has graduated from WITT in the last 50 years get in touch.”
