WITT shares vision with Community

Taranaki businesses and local stakeholders will hear about WITT’s vision for the region and accompanying investment plans at an upcoming community engagement event. 

WITT will host a Taranaki Chamber of Commerce Business Connections event at Te Kāuta café on its New Plymouth campus on Tuesday 1 June.

WITT Chief Executive John Snook said attendees will learn more about how WITT plans to ‘zoom out’ and make sure the region’s community college is meeting the needs of all Taranaki learners.

Chief Executive of Aotearoa’s new national learning institute Stephen Town will also be there to introduce himself and give an update on Te Pūkenga's role in the future of vocational education and the Just Transition.

“The future of work is changing and we’re ready to change with it,” John said.

“WITT is the educational hub through which the Just Transition is lifted off the paper and into an economic reality – so we want to provide an opportunity to share and discuss what that looks like with our wider community.”

He said the direction of tertiary education for WITT aligns with existing regional plans like Taupae Roa and the Taranaki 2050 Roadmap, as well as national shifts signalled by the Productivity Commission, Infrastructure Commission and the Reform of Vocational Education.

“We know we can’t do this alone, so we recognise the need to work together with our employers, businesses and other key regional orgnaisations to get it right.

“Backed by our community and our local and national governments, we’re partnering with Taranaki to create a better tomorrow.”

The Business Connections event is open to the public, though people interested in attending are are asked to RSVP before 24 May.

“It is important we work as a team to ensure what we are providing is best for our people and our businesses.”
